LISTEN UP: Seriously, Move Your Damn Feet, America

Junior Senior

  • The severly underappreciated second Junior Senior album is finally making its way to the U.S.! The cd is kind of like dunking a lemon in grenadine, rolling it in sugar, then taking a huge bite of it, but my goodness, is it catchy. (Blogs Are For Dogs)
  • This live mp3 of Regina Spektor singing “Baby Jesus” is more adorable than, well, Christbaby himself. (You Ain’t No Picasso)
  • Getting excited for Sonic Youth’s tour of the entire Daydream Nation album? Musikoon gets you ready for a concert event that’s sure to be seminal, riveting, and collecting a lot of dust in the years to come.
  • If you’ve got some gigs to fill on your iPod, The Rich Girls Are Weeping has an epically epic collection of epic tracks including “Marquee Moon by Television, “Party’s Fall” by Siouxsie and the Banshees, and the entire audio track of the movie “Gettysburg.”
  • Lastly, Flowering Toilet laments Squeeze, the Doug Yule-led “Velvet Underground” “album” which will forever stick out as the sore thumb in the Velvets’ otherwise flawless canon. It makes me even more nervous for “Die Hard 4.”

LISTEN UP: Santa & Satan

sufjanxxxmas.jpg

  • Over at ThaBombShelter, you can hear Sufjan Stevens’ cleverly-titled Xmas homage to The White Stripes, “Get Behind Me, Santa!”
  • Meanwhile, at Indieish, a new band called Stark Effect has a song titled after a few of my favorite things: “Bunnyrabbits, Satan, Cheese & Milk”.
  • Me & Country Pinball Machine think collaboration between The Strokes and Regina Spektor is devilishly good.
  • David Byrne says Caetano Veloso have put out the best indie rock record of the year, and since he is infinitely cooler than you are, go to Stereogum and listen to it.
  • Foreign Islands is badass, and You Ain’t No Picasso knows what I’m talking about.

A Little Afternoon Adorableness Break

We are really loving the new Regina Spektor album Begin to Hope. Wondering whether to get it? Well, here’s a good test. Check out this video for one of our favorite tracks, “Fidelity”, and if you don’t feel completely adorable by the end or aren’t crying on the inside, it’s probably not the album for you.

LISTEN UP: Always One Foot On The Ground

  • Oasis’ greatest hits album comes out tomorrow. Page 300 has their cover of “Helter Skelter.” Download it, but first promise me that you won’t kill anybody because of it.
  • Speaking of covers, Hate Something Beautiful posted two Of Montreal covers, including their take on The Shins’ “Know Your Onion!”
  • An Aquarium Drunkard also has two mp3’s today. The Hold Steady’s “Chips Ahoy” and “Southtown Girls.” Download them both.
  • The Music Slut posted two Regina Spektor tracks today, one being “Fidelity.” I’d tell you how much I love this song, but I don’t want you to judge me.
  • And finally, Rewriteable Content has a great mix including tracks by Radiohead, The Rapture, Sufjan, comedy by Demetri Martin and more. Get to work.

LISTEN UP: I’m Not Afraid of You…

  • And the award for “Best. Album. Title. Ever.” goes to Yo La Tengo, for their genius I’m Not Afraid of You, And I’ll Beat Your Ass. Go to Merry Swankster to see if the songs are as just as good.
  • The Supreme Council of Music Bloggers has elevated the status of Beirut, Cold War Kids, The Breakdown and a few other indie bands to label-worthy, and ProductShopNYC has tracks to celebrate.
  • Itstoolong is all in German, which is why it’s a good thing that “Joanna Newsom’s harp-strumming elven fairy warbling” is a language everyone can understand.
  • The Shins have postponed the release of their new album to January 2007, but you can still have your lives changed by three new live tracks over at YANP.
  • I’ve really been digging the Regina Spektor song “On the Radio” lately, and think you should go download it at All Things Go! for the “November Rain” reference alone.

LISTEN UP: BWE’s Daily Dose of the Best Music Ever

stereolab.jpg

  • Scenestars serves up a few classic tracks from indie pop fuzz-freak OG-hipsters Stereolab, from their forthcoming “best of” album.
  • Stereogum says The Slip is a band to watch, which means that in about 6 minutes every blog-reading indie-kid on the planet will be doing just that – so hurry over and grab yourselves a good seat!
  • If you still haven’t discovered the sweet sounds of Bishop Allen, you’re just not listening. So stop what you’re doing, check out Indie Mix Tapes, and hear the hotness.
  • The early birds over at The Pelican’s Perch get the worm word out on the awesome new album from Regina Spektor by posting three of the latest tracks.
  • MOKB shakes up the sounds of Snowglobe, a great indie rock band from Memphis who happen to be friends of mine. Do yourselves a favor and give them a listen!

LISTEN UP: BWE’s Daily Dose of the Best Music Ever

  • Happy Birthday, Information Leafblower. Head over there now, wish them a happy b-day, and download Cracker’s “Happy Birthday to Me.”
  • The bassist of the Arctic Monkeys quit on the band (a mere 2 months after America did.) Check out Metro Distortion to find out “Who The F*** Are The Arctic Monkeys.”
  • Everything about the Out Hud track BadmintonStamps posted today is huge. The length of the song (11:35) and the title: “Dear Mr. Bush, There Are Over 100 Words For S**t And Only 1 For Music. F**k You, Out Hud.”
  • On Cyprus Ave posted a bunch of tracks today, including songs by The Pipettes, Muse and Regina Spektor.
  • The quality isn’t great, but it’s still worth a listen: The Rocksuckers features The Strokes covering “Take A Walk On The Wild Side.” And the colored girls go do doo do doo do…
