The River Premiere Summed Up In One Awesome Monkey GIF

Dlisted provides this GIF from last night’s premiere of The River on ABC. It requires no context:

Nothing to see here, just some sort of doll lady during around PSYCHE NAWW IT’S A MONKEY RAWWWRRRRR!!! You got MONKEYFACED’D!!

I’ve seen a million ads for The River and had tuned them out to this point (I usually don’t start watching a show until it’s at least 1 1/2 season in and I’ve heard from at least two regular friends, two work friends, and the internet that I NEED to see it), but a little monkey mask goes a long way, and now I’m intrigued.

Does this happen in every episode? Can I get some sort of guarantee that this and/or something comparably hilarious will definitely happen? Cause I’m not watching this thing if it’s not very good or very bad, and none of us have any use for an ‘ok’ tv show when there’s like 17 must-see things we need to catch up on at any given time. The last thing I need in my life is, like, NCIS: Notmonkeyface. Deal?

The Best Cee Lo Green Moment From The Voice Or Ever

The Voice premiered after the Super Bowl last night, and whether you’re a fan of reality-singing competitions or not, I think we can all agree that this is an image that belongs on tv always (via Muppet Madison):

“The name’s Cee Lo Green – the Cee stands for ‘Cee Me Holding This Cee-at Like A Tiny Bond Villain?”

I know The Voice just started, but Cee-Lo’s team already looks unstoppable. Especially when they get into Meowing ‘Silent Night’ Week, which I believe is next week.

The Only Groundhog Day / Game Of Thrones Photoshop You’ll Ever Need

Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow this morning, and us Game Of Thrones fans all know what that means…

Oh great, another character to remember?? Ahh, can’t complain, just happy to see any images of that show during this dark Thronesless winter. Can’t wait til that show comes back and we get to see the groundhog decapitate someone and/or get naked.

(Pic by God Of Nerds via MTV Geek, thought it appears Alex Zalben may have had the idea first, I just really enjoy the version with the sword. Doesn’t matter, we all just get sucked into the HuffPo turbine in the end anyway. Good ‘shoppin, Internet!)

Top Chef Recap: I’m A Loner, Padma, A Rebel

It’s Top Chef Texas episode 13 entitled Bike, Borrow & Steal, meaning the chefs will have to bike around San Antonio, borrow kitchens from local restaurants, and apparently steal sh*t? “I’m not here to steal pens,” they all keep telling the camera, then Beverly cries somewhere.

For the Quickfire, the chefs walk in to see a giant table full of pancakes that end up not getting used in any way so f*ck you, 19th century street urchins:

Remember last week when the chefs did a benefit for the Healthy Choice ‘End Childhood Hunger’ campaign? A decent start would’ve been giving those 4,000 pancakes to some kids.

Oop, no time for talky talk because Pee-Wee Herman is here!

R.I.P. Don Cornelius: Remembering The Soul Train / Fresh Prince Crossover Episode

Soul Train host Don Cornelius was found dead in his home today of a reportedly self-inflicted gunshot wound, following years of documented health problems and personal issues.

On this tragic occasion, we’d like to honor Cornelius for his distinct pop culture contributions, but I’d be lying if I said I was more than peripherally aware of Soul Train during my youth, save for one large exception: Don Cornelius’ cameo appearance on an episode of Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air, when the Banks family appears on the 25th Anniversary of Soul Train to honor the place where Uncle Phil proposed to Vivian, culminating with the Soul Train Line and an epic Will vs. Carlton dance-off.

Click the pic below to watch the clip. To this day, the Geoffrey “Point” is my go-to move if I’m too sober to dance:

The Breaking Bad Old-School RPG Looks Really Addictive

The folks at Collegehumor put together this amazing video of Breaking Bad (our favorite show) re-imagined as a Final Fantasy-type 90s role playing game (our favorite thing ever at the time). The parody perfectly nails every nostalgically good/bad aspect of 90s RPGs and our reactions to playing them (skip…skip…), while also giving us some cartoon Walt & Jesses to tide us over during this trying BB-withdrawal period.

The video contains spoilers, so don’t watch it if you’re not caught up on Breaking Bad or you’re still stuck on Tiamat the original Final Fantasy:

Louis C.K. Sells A New Pilot To…CBS??

I was going to open this post with some lazy refrain like “Good news, Louie fans…” but I have honestly no idea what a Louis C.K. CBS show would be like (because it sure as hell won’t be anything like Louie), so that’s kind of irrelevant here.

The point is, CBS has purchased a pilot from Louis C.K., so, cool:

The FX series star and former SNL writer is teaming with Spike Feresten (Seinfeld) on the show, which just received a pilot order from the network. The untitled project is an ensemble comedy about “young people trying to achieve their creative dreams in these tough financial times.” According to one account, Louis C.K. and Feresten originally conceived the project 13 years ago.

Sounds interesting. Obviously the pitch is worlds apart from the premise of Louie or HBO’s Lucky Louie – to say nothing of the massive discrepancy in target audiences between CBS and FX / HBO – but if it gets picked up, I’ll be interested to see a Louis C.K. tv project that doesn’t directly feature him, plus his moderate celebrity status over the past couple years might buy him some creative leeway even in a network environment, so who knows? As long as it doesn’t cut into Rob‘s timeslot, I’m all in favor.

It’s just amusing to imagine CBS picking up a show by the same person who wrote the Louie Heckler Scene (Very NSFW):

Justin Bieber Will Host Your SNL In 2012, Gurl

Lorne Michaels appeared on Alec Baldwin’s Podcast this week and confirmed that Justin Bieber will host an episode of Saturday Night Live in 2012, and will appear as both the host and the musical guest in the same episode (he truly is the Sting of tweens).

Obviously, this should be interesting; on one hand, Bieber did appear in multiple sketches during his last musical-guest appearance (when Tina Fey hosted), but he also kiiind of wasn’t a great actor (which is to be expected from someone who’s nine years old and not an actor). Still, a full episode of Bieber and the inevitable buzz that would generate does present SNL with an unprecedented opportunity – hopefully he’s as on board with legitimate self-parody as Justin Timberlake always seemed to be.

After the jump, check out Biebs during his last SNL stint as the object of Tina Fey’s middle-aged-teacher desire:

LOL & ORDER: Kid Humming Law & Order Theme Is Legally The Best

Here’s an adorably committed kid humming the Law & Order theme song while accompanying himself by banging a washing machine. It is, without a doubt, the best musical performance I’ve seen so far in 2012.

It’s like a young Michael Winslow meets a young Stomp meets a regular-age Law & Order. Is it too early to crown a Song Of The Summer? Cause I just enscribed that crown then set it on that washing machine.

Law & Order, meet LOL & AWESOME:

Between this video and John Mulaney’s SVU standup bit on Conan, it’s been an exciting 24 hours for Law & Order themed things. Not to mention the 56 hours of actual Law & Order that aired during that timespan.

(Thanks, @haulihan!)

Top Chef Texas Recap: Attack The Block Party

It’s Top Chef Texas episode 12 entitled “Block Party”, and to be perfectly up front, this recap is gonna be all downhill after that opening cat photo, as will the entire rest of my writing career and possibly life. But we’re in this season TOGETHER, dammit, so I’ll type some nonsense words about that episode we just saw and you can follow along and keep scrolling back up to that cat pic when you get bored. Deal?

BREAKING NEWS: Paul has just been named the winner of this Top Chef season via Mercy Rule. Congrats, Paul! Top Chef will be moving on to the next season starting next week. Seems only fair.

Wait, actually I’ve been misinformed. What I actually heard was, Ron Paul has been named the winner of this Top Chef season via Mercy Rule. Actually no, this source might be unreliable. I’ve actually just been checking a Slovakian NHL Trade Rumors website, and I can’t read any of this. It might not be about Top Chef at all – I’ll hit Google Translate and get back to you.

In the meantime, only 6 chefs left, so ONWARD TO THE QUICKFIRE:
