Nike Unveils Real-Life Back To The Future Self-Tying Shoes

The Back To The Future series already correctly predicted that a team from Miami would get to the World Series four years before any Major League Baseball teams in Florida even existed, so why wouldn’t they also be right about the future of self-lacing shoes? From /Film:

Yep, this is an announcement of Nike Air Mag shoes, aka the self-lacing sneakers seen in Back to the Future II. (Looks like we don’t have to wait until 2015 for those, as the film prophesied.) Nike patented the self-lacing design last year and now it looks like the shoes are ready for market.

The news broke yesterday, prompting an appropriate swelling of “Are hoverboards next??” excitement (one amazing Back To The Future prophecy coming true at a time, guys!), and now there’s a commercial to go along with it, which should prompt Pavlovian salivation amongst those of us born within the appropriate 10-year period.

Check out the teaser ad for Nike’s Back To The Future-inspired Air Mag shoes after the jump:

Hm. We don’t actually see the shoes tying themselves, but we also don’t not see the shoes tying themselves and shooting a holographic Jaws out of a news screen at Marty, so we cannot confirm nor deny that this will definitely happen (but this will definitely happen.)

Nice job, Nike! Never thought I’d find a replacement for my teal ’93 Reebok Pumps (to match my Charlotte Hornets shirt with the muscular hornet breaking through the back), but this may finally be almost it.
