One of my favorite Saturday Night Live sketches of all time is the Sabra Price Is Right, an Israeli version of the Price Is Right written by Robert Smigel and starring a surprisingly convincing Tom Hanks as the pushy Israeli host. In between segments of them pushing broken electronic goods on unsuspecting contestants, Hanks and company (Sandler and Schneider) would hit on the ladies in contestants row, with a “Why you no go to disco with him?” and a “Disco, disco, go, go, to disco.” This same joke was used years later in the Israeli celebration film You Don’t Mess With The Zohan.
I used to think “How strange, none of the Israelis I know ever seem to mention disco…” almost disappointed, because let’s face it, I f*cking love disco. You show me a Thelma Houston’s “Don’t Leave Me This Way,” and I’ll show you a tall white girl on her knees with her arms stretched out to the Lord in thanks. But it looks like the disco dots are finally connecting, thanks to a new electronic duo out of Israel called The Young Professionals and their catchy track “D.I.S.C.O.”
The Young Professionals is made up of Yonatan Goldstein and Ivri Lider, who happens to be Israel’s most successful recording artist. And really, getting your music video posted here is as easy as saying “Two hot Jewish guys eating Lego breakfast and singing as a beautiful manlady in a mustache paralyzes you with his gaze.” In short: Good song, Hot Jews, Angry Gernderbenders = Sold.
Ahead, I bring you “The Sabra Price Is Right” for the few who haven’t seen it. Life classic.
