Stomp is an Off-Broadway show in which all these cast members dressed in wife beaters and cargo pants (known in fashion circles as “Backstreet Boys ’98″) (like I know what a “fashion circle” is) bang on stuff and dance on cans and sh*t. It’s a sort of grunge-y version of Cirque Du Soleil-meets-Blue Man Group, and has become a global phenomenon, with its unique combination of percussion, visual arts, and tongue-in-cheek sense of humor.
Where, it should be asked, does a cast member from the show come from? The answer is: Brazil Chile EVERYWHERE. It’s still unclear if cast members’ resumes read “funky janitor” and “musically gifted hobo,” but at a recent open call for the show, there were crazybirds from all over the map, coming out to realize their dreams of taking “banging on a tin can” to a whole new level six nights a week (plus matinees).
