America’s Got Talent is all up in my life-grill now. First that stand up guy, now this. That’s a lot of America’s Got Talent that I am forced to talk about, which is sort of nice, because that means that America has got a lot of talent! Or, more likely, maybe my life has cycled to the point where Howie Mandel is a large part of it again. The first stage of course being my intense Bobby’s World cartoon phase circa 1990. Because it’s all about me. Aaaaanyways. Gabourey Sidibe’s mom, Alice Tan Ridley, was on America’s Got Talent and wow-ed everyone all over the place. Because she sang that song that will continue to wow people at talent shows and weddings and engagement parties until the end of time, “At Last.” (And she’s really good). Take a look and listen
Hooray! But, honestly, I feel like there should be some sort of handicap if you sing “At Last,” because everyone, EVERYONE, loves that song. It’s like the Tim Curry of songs. (Because everyone loves Tim Curry in the world in which I inhabit). Maybe a more appropriate example would be Betty White. “At Last” is the Betty White of songs. So you’ve already got a leg up if you’re going to sing it. Don’t get me wrong, she is super talented. I wish I heard her on the subway every morning instead of the mariachi guys, who, though talented and with great boots and hats, tend to make me feel hungover even if I’m not hungover. So well done, Alice Tan Ridley! Now, if I could ask all future contenstants on America’s Got Talent to do nothing especially talented or noteworthy or famous daughter-y, I would be super grateful. Thanks!
