Saturday Night Live went and did it. They topped our expectations. The took a national treasure, Betty White, put her front and center, brought back some of the funniest female cast members who have ever graced the SNL stage, and, with the help of Jay-Z (whose 48-minute Megamix was still a few minutes too short), helped compile one of the most memorable episodes in the show’s history. And given what the show has been cranking out as of late, this accomplishment is even greater.
Those of you who middle-schooled-it-up on Saturday night and stayed home to watch the event live, like myself, were rewarded. And it seemed like a lot of you did just that. What did we get in return for sacrificing a fine night of binge drinking in public? We got Betty White’s muffin, Betty White lezzin’ it up, Betty White the metal enthusiast, and Betty White David Caruso’s Mother. A fine trade. Not to mention appearances by the all-too-missed Maya Rudolph (“Bobbayyy!”), Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Rachel Dratch and Ana Gasteyer.
