Ah, middle school. Sometimes one wonders if middle school was created specifically to sequester pre-teens and post-adolescents during their ugliest time, an entire cement block dedicated to school the country’s most unsightly youngsters. It’s during this time that are “parts” start “budding,” our “glands” “secreting,” our “faces” going through some sort of space time continuum between childhood and the rest of our endless lives where ears, mouths and noses morph into grotesque gargoyle like shapes before our real selves are born. As you can tell from this preceding sentence, middle school was not a kind time for Michelle Collins, so much so that she has been forced to refer to herself in the third person.
But today, hope. That’s because video has emerged of “Tik Tok” lead robot Ke$ha performing at her middle school talent show at the age of 13 back in 2000, singing the Radiohead classic “Karma Police.” And the girl? Was a mess. LIKE WE ALL WERE.
Because really, if video footage of me at my 8th grade talent show playing the violin while my Hitler of a math teacher stood behind me waiting for me to finish, causing me to forget the melody and announce to my entire grade “Sorry. I forgot the rest.” and walk off stage existed on video, I’d likely be blogging for a rehab facility somewhere and not this here blog.
In other words: We were all Ke$ha’s at some point. Also, she doesn’t sound completely terrible. So yay. And in a related story, that sonic boom you just heard was Radiohead‘s soul dying.
