DirecTV Still Pissed About That Independence Day Best Picture Snub

I loaded a new “Smart Search” tab on my DirecTV menu yesterday and couldn’t help but notice the photo they chose for the “Best Picture Snubs” category:

Someone at DirecTV might be a little pissed that ID4 never got its day in the Oscar-sun (not even  Robert Loggia got seriously overlooked . In a related story, Michelle Collins apparently designs menus for DirecTV.

Upon further examination, though I’m sure someone will comment about it regardless, I realized it’s not an actual still from Independence Day, just something that looks exactly like it — though it’s also not from Close Encounters of the Third Kind or 2001, it’s obviously not from an Alien movie, and otherwise I’m really not sure which of these movies was an actual “Best Picture Snub”.

Possibly Abbott & Costello Go To Mars? Wait, no, that won seven Oscars. Maybe there’s a scene in the Dark Knight Director’s Cut where Batman looks over and sees a drawing of a flying saucer, shakes his head, and gets back to the movie? Either way, future DirecTV Oscar-snub animosity updates will be forthcoming.
