PETA Wants To Replace Punxsutawney Phil With A Robot Groundhog

In an uncharacteristic stab for publicity, the ordinarily low-profile and level-headed PETA is now demanding that the town of Punxsutawney, PA replace its famous Groundhog Day groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, with a robot alternative. At least two parts of this request make no sense:

1) William Deeley, president of the Inner Circle of the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club (best title ever), gives the obvious response, that the animal is “being treated better than the average child in Pennsylvania,” and adds that it’s just a publicity plea on the part of PETA (if so, it would certainly be the first).

2) Robotic Groundhogs? I think we all know where this would lead:

Besides, how could anyone tamper with such a classic Bill Murray movie? Digitally inserting a robot groundhog into Ghostbusters just wouldn’t make any sense.
