John Madden announced his retirement today, ending a legendary 30-year broadcasting career (following a highly successful coaching career and a concurrently-running video game being named after him career). I’ll personally remember Madden as the guy who always pissed me off with his inane comments during the Packers/Cowboys games that were contractually obligated to air on Fox every other Sunday from 1995-1998, but then who defied odds and gradually made me respect him as a rejuvenated booth personality on Monday Night Football and most recently on NBC’s Sunday Night broadcasts (I finally came to realize that I actually liked John Madden, what I didn’t like was John Madden broadcasting a game with Brett Favre in it).

I’ll also remember John Madden as the source of one of the first viral videos I ever posted during my early days at BWE — I happened to witness this live, rewound my DVR, recorded it to a VHS tape, and brought the tape into my office and uploaded it, so that I could bring America the masterpiece that was John Madden Draws A Telestrator Penis:

You’ll be missed, John! And if you’re replaced by Joe Buck doing double-network duty, I will also retire from watching the NFL!
