First Neil Patrick Harris hosts the Tonys, and now Ricky Gervais is set to host the Golden Globes? I’m not sure what the catch is behind this sudden display of Awards show competence, but I’m suspicious:
Ricky Gervais has been tapped to host the 67th annual Golden Globe Awards, which airs live on NBC on Jan. 17 from the Beverly Hilton…
“Not only is this the biggest Hollywood celebration of the industry which includes both film and TV, but also an environment where I feel I can get free reign as a host. I have resisted many other offers like this, but there are just some things you don’t turn down,” Gervais said.
I don’t have much to add to this story, but since 99% of the time I mention the name of an awards show on BWE, it’s preceded by “Can you believe how f***ing stupid The” and followed by “were this year?” so I’ll give credit where credit is due. Plus people in the crowd actually laugh / smile / aren’t robots at the Golden Globes, so we might not have to get angry at the tuxedoed frowns the way we did when Jon Stewart hosted the Academy Awards.
Speaking of which, in response to this unusual display of Awards Show sanity, The Oscars have decided to increase their field of Best Sound Mixing nominees to 35.
