OK, so Chicago didn’t get the 2016 Olympics. It is a real shame, and we can spend a lot of time finger pointing at who is to blame (I for one blame Michael Phelps for smoking that bong!). Instead, I think the people of Chi-town should take stock in knowing they are home to these beloved movies and TV shows. Beat this list, Rio De Janeiro:
1) Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
If they did hold the Olympics in Chicago, the parade scene from this movie should have been the entire opening ceremonies.
2) The Blues Brothers
This movie has arguably the best car chase in movie history and one hell of a soundtrack.
Watch more Chicago awesomeness after the jump.
3) The Dark Knight
Chicago is also home to the other best car chase of all time (yes, technically this movie takes place in “Gotham City,” but it was filmed in Chicago).
4) Wayne’s World
Sure, Wayne and Garth were from the Chicago suburb of Aurora, but it’s close enough.
5) Rookie of the Year
This movie had every eleven-year-old in mid-1990’s America breaking their arm on purpose to play in the majors. I know I tried.
6) Adventures in Babysitting
This movie is arguably Elisabeth Shue’s best work, and it had every nine-year-old kid in mid-1980’s America sneaking out on the babysitter.
7) Family Matters
For a short moment this show was huge. This show was like NCIS: The Original huge. Even my grandma knew how to do “The Urkel.”
8) Perfect Strangers
This show unintentionally had the most uplifting TV theme song of all time. I sort of wish every sitcom began with a flyover of Chicago. Even Seinfeld.
9) Married With Children
This show was on the air for about a decade, and it got the Fox network through those rocky first couple of years. Yes, you have Al Bundy to thank for American Idol.
10) Will Ferrell doing Harry Caray
Enough said.
