Perhaps it’s due to the crappy weather in New York as of late, or maybe it’s that my stone-cold cynical heart is finally thawing… but this commercial for Traveler’s Insurance (which has been on the air for a couple of months) might be the saddest damn thing I have ever seen. It’s the story of one dog and his most prized possession: A single, delicious bone. And as though the ad needed more sentimentality, it is set to the soundtrack known as “Staring out of the window into the storm as your reflected tears blend in with the rain”, also known as Ray LaMontagne’s “Trouble”.
The Lovely Bones hopes to be half this emotional. It’s like the Titanic of insurance ads.
