Saturday afternoon, the weather in New York was a positively balmy 55 degrees. To celebrate, I threw on my best cropped coat, slapped prop flats from the Slumdog Millionaire estate sale to my feet, and made my way down Broadway on the Upper West Side for some light people watching/money busting.
As part of my travels, I made my usual foray into Loehmann’s, a veritable shmatte shmorgasboard of discount “designer” clothing. Seeing as I’m in the market for an evening gown to wear to my big DC Gala (Effortless plug? Check!) I figured it was worth a try.
It was there, while trying on moth-eaten pilled overcoats on clearance, that I had possibly my best discount superstore celebrity sighting in history…

Yes! Best Week Ever favorite person alive SANJAYA MALAKAR WAS SPOTTED — BY ME — AT LOEHMANN’S. He’s surprisingly tall, bone thin, and sweet-natured. I’m not gonna say he smiled at me, but he certainly did not deliver the typical dirty look I receive when staring at complete strangers. He was shoppin’ 4 blazerz (genius show concept, ps) and just seemed like a regular ol’ doll.
Which is why I’d like to tell Sanjaya: Next time you want to go discount clothing shopping… CALLLL MEEEEE!!! I’m super fun and poor! Besties Made In Hevs.
BREAKING: My co-worker Norman just fessed up that he saw Project Runway‘s Christian Siriano at Home Depot also on Saturday, in the spray paint section. What next? Miss Jay in a moth-chewed cardigan at Filene’s? (picking up gun) Is this thing on? (gunshot through my own face on accident.)
