Nick Hogan’s getting out of the slammer three months early. The release date is set for October 21, at which point I am sure Nick will be faced with numerous challenges adjusting back to the the real world. I’d like to offer the following guide to the Hogan Family to assist them in supporting Nick as he tries to get a handle on his newfound freedom.
1. Nick May Have Trouble Making Decisions For Himself
While in prison, Nick led a very structured life. For five long months, every minute of his day was planned out. The rules were the only thing that felt real to him. He may feel the need to ask you permission to pee. And that’s okay. He might not know which X-box game to play first. Gently guide him through his day – perhaps even create a schedule for him. When he accomplishes a task, mark it with a gold star.
2. Nick May Be Overwhelmed By The Changes That Have Taken Place In The Outside World.
Technology has advanced and the world will look different to Nick. He may be afraid of new inventions, such as the iPhone 3G and all the varying new modes of transportation. Be sensitive to him – he may have sudden outbursts when trying to operate machinery. Things you take for granted will be brand new for him. Slang will have changed and he may not understand what you are saying. Communication is key – so be patient.
3. Nick Will Look Different.
While in the slammer, Nick will have aged significantly and you may not recognize the man that stands before you. Just remember, deep inside, he’s still that little boy who put his friend in a coma.
4. Nick Will Have A New Outlook.
You may notice that Nick is walking and talking differently. While in the slammer, he lifted a lot of weights and studied the teachings of Malcolm X. He will have a totally new outlook on the world around him – and it might frighten you. Just listen to what he has to say. Eventually, that mumbo jumbo political stuff he’s talking about will fade, and he’ll go back to worrying about the important things in life, such as what flavor hot pocket he should eat.
If you follow my guide, there’s a good chance Nick won’t hang himself!
