What Klondike Should Do For A Klondike Bar

klondikecontest.JPGEverytime a company runs one of those “make our commercial for us and we’ll pay you far less than what an advertising company would charge!” contests, the results are usually something along the lines one of those cheesy Coca-Cola short film contest winners that you used to see before the trailers at the movies: wholesome, but just not that funny. Klondike is currently running exactly that type of contest, giving $25,000 to the lucky person who creates the winning “What I’d Do For A Klondike Bar” video. If you take a quick peek at the current top videos on the site, you’ll get your classic entries: the guy who dresses up in his underwear and runs through a convenience store embarassing himself for a Klondike Bar, a Weird Al / TMBG wannabe singing with an accordion, and a dude who spends 24 hours in a polar bear costume for – you guessed it – a Klondike Bar.

There’s a very obvious reason the results of this contest will be mediocre: the rules of the contest state: “The Entry may not contain obscene, lewd or inappropriate images or text including no nudity, acts of violence or acts that appear to cause harm.” Have I become so cynical that I can’t enjoy comedy that is family-friendly? No. It’s because this contest in particular asks the question: What would you do for a Klondike Bar? And honestly, the funniest answer to that question, if you think about it, is something obscene, lewd, including inappropriate images or text, nudity, and acts of violence or acts that appear to cause harm. Soooo…Klondike kind of shot themselves in the foot on this one, didn’t they?

Case in point: this video.

Made by the hilarious Glennis McMurray, Eliza Skinner, and Anya Garrett. It goes without saying, they were disqualified.
