Pierce Brosnan Just Might Be The Worst Singer In The World

PIERCE BEAR 2.jpg

On Friday, most of you will be clamoring to fill a seat at one of thousands of The Dark Knight screenings. But that’s not to say all of you. Mothers, daughters, fans of musicals and gays will be flocking to the theaters to catch another spectacle entirely: Mammia Mia, a feature film Abba musical based on the hit Broadway show. Reviews for the film have been good enough, with praise being lavished unto the unstoppable Meryl Streep, and the movie’s lead, rising starlet Amanda Seyfried.

But perhaps the most notable person in the film is Pierce Brosnan, who plays one of three possible baby daddys who arrives in Greece for boatloads of paternity fun. And, this being a musical, Pierce is forced to sing. While the reviews for the film are falling into the “good stupid fun” range (it’s currently at 65% on Rotten Tomatoes), almost every review makes sure to comment on how terrible Brosnan’s singing is. Here are some of our favorite examples:

“Pierce Brosnan’s walrus warble very nearly ruins the movie entirely.” — AfterElton

WALRUS SANGING.jpg“In particular that old rascal himself, the former James Bond alias Pierce Brosnan, whose late in life segue into sentimental crooner on the big screen, is possibly not such a great idea.” — Newsblaze

“To put it quite bluntly, the former James Bond cannot sing and the thought that someone felt he could pass muster with his charming albeit atonal delivery is unconscionable.” — ComingSoon

PIERCE SINGING.jpg“The bravest performance of Pierce Brosnan’s career since anyone who sings like that choosing to expose himself to the public is daring indeed.” — Movie City News

“I’d like to forget the others—especially Brosnan, whose singing is the best imitation I’ve heard of a water buffalo.” — New York Magazine

“Among them is Pierce Brosnan as Sam (who sings like a lawnmower).” — Teletext

“…Pierce Brosnan clutching at notes at the other like a man trying to catch flies on a windy day.” — MFTM (Ed. Note: This website seems to be entirely written in Greek. This is the one part they left in English. Also, it is our favorite of the lot.)

“Pierce Brosnan’s singing appears to have been dubbed by Fozzie Bear.” — EmpireOnline

After the jump, hear Pierce sing and judge for yourself!

Here’s a track off the new movie featuring Pierce, called “When All Is Said And Done .” It starts off… OK. He almost sounds like Randy Newman? And then it really just… nosedives.

UPDATE: Here is a MUCH worse song:

ps: The answer to the above riddle is:

Fozzie, of course. The hat outline should have been a dead giveaway.
