Today’s Associated Press features an article entitled: Dwayne Wade on Star Jones rumors: We’re just friends. We here at Best Week Ever began thinking: What if instead of dating NBA Basketball player Dwayne Wade, Star Jones was actually dating the perpetually bespecled character on A Different World, Dwayne Wayne?

The article would probably sound a little something like this:

Dwyane Wayne has finally spoken up about his alleged romance with Star Jones: “Star is an unbelievable woman. We have a great, great relationship. As friends.”

“We’re friends, just like a lot of celebrities. We are friends,” the Hillman College junior majoring in Mathematics said Thursday during an appearance on A Different World, the jocular NBC show featuring Whitley Marion Gilbert, Jaleesa Taylor, and Winifred ‘Freddie’ Brooks.

“Are y’all close friends?” Whitley asked.

“We’re good friends,” Wayne responded.

“Are you the kind of friends that drink out of one cup with two straws?” Whitley persisted, referring to a much-discussed photo of Wayne, 22, and Jones, the 46-year-old TV personality who recently filed for divorce, at a tennis match. “Those kind of friends?”

“We are friends. That’s all,” said Wayne, who is dating his freshman sweetheart Denise Huxtable.

“Good friends?” Freddie interjected.

“Naw, Freddie,” Wayne said with a smile.

Some hilarity ensued. Jaleesa broke through the commotion to say, “I like Star. She’s a cougar.”

“What’s a cougar?” Whitley asked, not so innocently, a perfect lob to Jaleesa.

Jaleesa promptly slammed the ball home: “Preying on a young Dwyane Wayne.”

Representatives for Jones did not immediately return a call for comment Thursday night.
