If there’s one website on the ‘net that truly holds some sway over the world of professional sports, it’s none other than your pastel-tinged, celeb-crotch-photo-incubating Bestweekever.tv.
Three weeks ago, we uploaded a clip of ESPN suitjock Sean Salisbury calling his nerd opponent John Clayton “Crypt Keeper” and doing an impromptu “Taaaalesss From The Crypt” impression. The clip was promptly linked on Withleather and got 20,000 views, and was subsequently uploaded to Youtube and notched another 70k. Yesterday, ESPN confirmed that Sean Salisbury has been fired, and the NFL rumor site Profootballtalk speculates:
“I’d done nothing wrong, and if you hear otherwise, it’s not true. I did everything that was asked of me,” Salisbury said, possibly in an effort to defuse any rumors that he was fired for calling John Clayton the “Cryptkeeper” on the air last month.
You guys — I don’t want to succumb to blogger delusions of grandeur here, but I think we can safely say that BWE was SOLELY RESPONSIBLE for getting Sean Salisbury fired. Here’s how I imagine the conversation went down at ESPN:
ESPN Producer: Salsie, I can’t believe you called Clayts “Crypt Keeper” on the air, you agreed you were gonna keep that strictly to our corporate raquetball locker room!
Salisbury: Wha’evah, not like any pop culture blogs based on VH1 shows happened to catch it, I’m sure it’ll just go away.
ESPN Producer: Yeah, I suppose you’re ri– oh dear God.
Salisbury: What’sa probs?
ESPN Producer: Sean…They posted the clip on Bestweekever.tv, the #1 sports site on the internet. This leaves us with only one option.
Salisbury: NOOOOO — DOOOOOOOONNNNNN’TTTTTTT!!!
ESPN Producer: I’m sorry, we’re going to have to let you go. Just thank your lucky stars this didn’t get posted on Lasagna Cat or the Pizza By Alfredo website, or you may never work in broadcasting again.
Happy trails, Salisbury! May your nightmares be haunted by John Clayton’s googly discolored eyes and horror-related puns!
