So this morning on the Today show, Jane Fonda was discussing her part in the 15th Anniversary of Eve Ensler’s play The Vagina Monologues and suddenly jolted the audience out of their pre-triple-latte stupor by casually dropping the “See You Next Tuesday” Word Which Shall Never Be Spoken. Host Meredith Vieira was then thrust into the hellish position of having to ask herself whether she should continue laughing awkwardly at Fonda’s wildly inappropriate remark, or address the giant pink elephant suddenly standing in the room. Being the good Morning Show Perkypants that she is, Vieira handled the situation like a pro, never acknowledging what had just been said until ten minutes or so later, when Fonda had finally been removed from the stage and subdued, at which point Vieira but on a big smile, looked right into that camera’s eye, and said, “We’re sorry that Jane Fonda just said ‘C*nt’ on live television while you were trying to eat your Cracklin’ Oat Bran. Happy Valentine’s Day.”
