If CNN is to be believed (and really, they aren’t), the election results tonight will cause people around the country to celebrate their asses off. (Literally, I think by tomorrow morning we will no longer be fighting an obesity epidemic in the U.S. thanks to all the celebrating tonight.) But there’s only one true way to celebrate: With a killer Election Night Playlist!
I’ve taken it upon myself to scroll through all 2,500 songs on my Ipod to bring to you a quick and easy Election Night playlist to cue up once the celebrating commences. Remember: These are only songs I found on my playlist… yes, including that one and that one. Feel free to add your Election Night celebration songs in the comments!
1. “Just Dance” by Lady Gaga. A good beat to get the juices flowing.
2. “If I Can Dream” by Elvis Presley. One of the few inspirational songs that can make actual human tears spill onto my cheeks from the first 5 trumpet notes alone.
3. “All The Man That I Need” by Whitney Houston. If the man you voted for won the election, this song will seem incredibly apropos.
4. “November Has Come” by Gorillaz. See, because November is here! And it has the word November in the title and so… let’s move onto number 5…
5. “American Boy” by Estelle. This is the dream date I’ve often pictured myself going on with Obam… I– I mean whoever wins the election.
6. “A Moment Like This” by Kelly Clarkson. Another tear jerker with which to commence the revelry.
7. “Against All Odds” by Phil Collins. One’s black and one’s old. Against All Odds indeed.
8. “I Need a Hero” by Bonnie Tyler. You might want to move this ones down the playlist order a bit, so that extremely drunk people will have no shame singing along with the infectious chorus.
9. “Oh Happy Day” by Edwin Hawkins Singers. Chill-inducing.
10. “From This Moment On (Remix)” by Shania Twain. Note: ONLY PLAY THE REMIX. The other version will Kill. Your. Party. Mood.
11. “Keeping The Dream Alive” – Freiheit. If you don’t know this song, download it immediately. It’s the theme to every 80s montage you’ve always pictured yourself in but never had the guts to complete.
12. “One Moment In Time” by Whitney Houston. Self-explan.
13. “Invincible” by Muse. The soundtrack to motivational dreamcatching.
14. “America” by Neil Diamond. Duh.
15 – 25 Continue Ahead!
15. “Let’s Get It On” by Marvin Gaye Some of y’all ladies out there might be feeling a bit “wound up” depending on who you voted for. Fellas, this is the song to play if you’re looking to get a bit wild tonight.
16. “Feeling Good” By Muse. This is how you will be feeling.
17. “Oh My God” by The Kaiser Chiefs. Believe it.
18. “Calling America” by ELO. Another lesser known but great song about America, by one of the best bands ever.
19. “Sunny Afternoon” by The Kinks. Try not to play this one if most of the partygoers in attendance make over $250,000 a year. The opening lyrics might cause a riot.
20. “Dont Stop Believin’” by Journey. Anyone see that Sopranos finale?
21. “This Is The Night” by Clay Aiken. OK, so I have a Clay Aiken song on my Ipod. You know why? I’ve been saving it for November 4, 2008, that’s why, you judgmental son of a bitch.
22. “We Are The Champions” by Queen.
23. “Can You Feel The Love Tonight?” by Elton John. This is the song to ease people out from party mode and into “alright guy, let’s wrap it up” mode.
24. “Hero” by Mariah Carey. Just to guarantee a final drunk cry with your friends… and finally:
25. “Closing Time” by Semisonic. I end every party playlist with this jam. Just to let people know it’s time to GET THE F**K OUT OF YOUR HOUSE.
