The Anatomy Of A Pig Dive

PIG DIVE 10.jpgMove over Pig In Boots (ever so delicately, might I add), because there’s an entirely new adorable pig situation that once again reminds why I hate to love bacon so damn much: Pig Diving. Pigs. Who Dive. My research indicates this amazingly inspiring (almost fetish-like) sport exists only in Australia, as the following photos were captured during the Pig Racing and Diving Event at the 2008 Royal Melbourne Show. Better yet, they’ve been throwing pigs into pools since 1848!

The question now is: (Seinfeld voice) What’s the squeal with pig diving? (Sorry.) No one really seems to know. A Google Search seeking the “History of Pig Diving” produces a depressing zero results. Though, there is some good news: An event back in 1983 which planned on throwing pigs out of moving airplanes was cancelled after the Humane Society had a collective heart explosion.

But enough with all this mindless chatter! Forget all this “possible pig torture” stuff and instead focus on how GOSH DANG adorable they are jumping into a tiny pool!! It is my pleasure to present: The Anatomy of a Pig Dive.

1. The Approach

PIGDIVING1.jpg
Hesitant? Surely. But loving the delicate hoof testing the wind speed. Very Rodney Dangerfield in Back to School of him.

2. The Release

PIGDIVING2.jpg
Look at that extension, that body line, the parallel and delicious feet. Magnificent.

The dive finishes, and an actual video of pig diving… ahead.

3. The Side-Glance

PIGDIVING3.jpg
I never knew pigs could side-glance. Now I know they can. Also, loving those udders.

4. The Nerves

PIGDIVING4.jpg
Oh, he seems to be flinching. While the tocks are in perfect alignment, I’m noticing a delicate lady hoof dangling in anticipation. That’ll cost her.

5. The Entrance

PIGDIVING5.jpg
Beautiful form. And dare I say? She looks pleased.

6. The Emergence

PIGDIVING6.jpg
A bit cocky, but she has all the reason to be.

7. The Wait

PIGDIVING7.jpg
The hardest part. It seems like it takes forever. Please note the tail.

8. The Shake-Off

PIGDIVING8.jpg
A job well done.

Finally, a video of pig-diving, or what I like to call “two of the most highly anticipated pig minutes on Youtube.”
