Good News, Everyone — Seth MacFarlane Ain’t Stoppin’ At Four Shows On The Air Simultaneously

StewieToday is a good day for those of you who just can’t get enough of “Famly Guy” creator / Remember of Things That Happened in the 80s Seth MacFarlane — he signed a deal locking him up with Fox through the year 2012!

I have already made my feelings about “Family Guy” quite clear in this space and received suprisingly uniform agreement in the comments, so no need to delve into specifics here. I also don’t blame Fox for the deal, as MacFarlane’s shows continue to generate reliable ratings a in their key demographic, nor do I blame MacFarlane for taking what I imagine to be a South Park-esque lucrative, stable contract with a network that’s now firmly in his corner.

The line in the article that truly terrifies me is this one:

“It effectively locks me into 20th,” MacFarlane said. “They have found ways to allow us to do what we need to do to make the show what it is. It’s great to be in a permanent, stable relationship … because I like to think that I have a number of other shows in me.”

A number of other shows in me????????” In addition to “Family Guy,” “American Dad,” the “Cleveland” spinoff, and the three-camera sitcom he’s developing with his “Family Guy” co-producer? To say nothing of the predictably short-lived sitcom “The Winner?”

Seth MacFarlane is aiming to have MORE THAN FOUR F*CKING TELEVISION SHOWS ON THE AIR AT ONE TIME. Who does he think he is, some kind of M. Night Shyamalan-meets-Tyler Perry-meets-inexplicable jokes about the show “Rhoda” super-ultra producergod? I’m sure we all agree that Seth Macfarlane is quantifiably twice as talented as “Office” / “King of the Hill” EP Greg Daniels and thus deserves more than twice as many shows on tv as him or any other producer, but still…
