At the risk of spending too much time dwelling on these Matt Damon / Ben Affleck f*ck videos (though it is an excruciatingly slow news day, NHL trades nonwithstanding), I feel like this week gives us an ample opportunity to re-examine the time-tested Affleck / Damon “Who’d You Rather?” debate.
The straight-male equivalent of this debate for years was Britney vs. Christina, though that argument sorted itself out quite conclusively, as many of these dilemmas ultimately do — I presume Biel / Alba will be solved shortly after Biel’s Oscar nomination and Alba’s performance in “Fantastic Four Four.”
The Affleck / Damon debate, on the other hand, has gone back and forth over the years, with Affleck taking the lead during his J-Lo, center-of-the-gossip world, Sexiest Man Alive years at the turn of the millenium, then Damon pulling ahead with a string of eminently watchable box office successes in the wake of Affleck’s overexposure, peaking with his own Sexiest Man Alive honor in 2007.
Now, with a successful directing debut and bustling tongue-in-cheek viral campaign under his belt, Affleck appears to be closing the gap both career-wise and general likeability-wise, plus, as a straight male myself, my input on the debate is pretty much limited to the movies they’re involved in, their acting/directing abilities, and whomever they’re dating. Also, their asses.
X Versus Y, the official arbiter of all needless pop culture debates, currently has Damon leading at an almost 3-to-1 margin, but I’m not so sure it’s an automatic landslide anymore. What do you think? Leave your “Who’d You Rather 2K8 ” responses in the comments!
