Let me kick off the following post with a disclaimer: I like Starbucks coffee. I do! While their regular brew tastes like liquid smoke, their lattes are pretty much delicious, and in the past, I’ve found their customer service to be top notch.
THAT BEING SAID: I found the following pretty strange. Yesterday afternoon, rather than injecting the caffeine directly into my eyeball as I normally do, I figured I’d grab some fresh air and head across the street to my neighborhood Starbucks. It was there that I saw something very curious being sold on their CD rack, prominently placed behind the Valentine’s Day mugs and in front of a homeless person sleeping in the toilet. There, between the latest Josh Groban and Pavarotti CDs, was the DVD for Nirvana‘s Unplugged. Evidence:
“Music to Love for The People You Love” is so true. I’ll never forget when I gave my mom that bootleg of “Rape Me” for Mother’s Day last year… she was like “Theeeeeenk Yeeeew!”
Anyway, if Kurt Cobain were alive today, I wouldn’t have his name carved into my arm. But more importantly, I doubt this DVD would be sold in a coffee chain’s “Easy Listening” “CD” “aisle”.
It should be noted that I’ve been a little hypersensitive about store displays regarding the deceased this week, so maybe there isn’t anything super-wrong with the above. Just please note that the 13-year-old inside of me was furious.
