There was a rumor floating around yesterday afternoon that a big duet was scheduled to appear on last night’s BET Awards: Oscar-winning Idol cum actress Jennifer Hudson was to be joined on stage by the woman who originated the role of Effie White in Dreamgirls, Jennifer Holliday. A historic moment indeed! And it’s no secret that Ms. Holliday was more than a little miffed that the film producers made no effort to include her in the production. Hopefully, that helps explain why the following clip is all that more unbearable to watch. Holliday (who looks absolutely amaaaazing after some serious weight loss) does such an incredible job over-singing and over-acting each line (her “Ha-HA!” are especially notable), desperation and attention are spilling out of every pore of the woman’s body. I half expected her head to pop off, revealing Arnold Schwarzenegger inside, secretly filming Total Recall 2. Hudson tries her best to keep up, but after watching this highlights reel, one realizes it’s sort of a miracle the entire auditorium didn’t spontaneously combust.
