Whenever I come across a particularly humorous gossip story, it is my job as a BWE blogger to pull the story, come up with some kind of funny/insightful take on it, and display it for our faithful gossip-discerning readers so we can all bask in its lighthearted faux-importance. Sometimes, however, a story breaks and there just isn’t anything funny to say about it. Like, for example, Vanessa Hudgens wondering why her boyfriend Zac Efron acts really metro:
According to a report in Star Magazine, the “High School Musical” actress wants a little less metro in her male.
“She wants to date a man, not a little girl,” an insider revealed to Star. “Vanessa told (Zac) to stop being such a sissy and freaking out when he gets blemishes.”
Vanessa wants Zac to realize that it’s OK if he doesn’t always look perfect… she would probably love him more if he relaxed about his looks and got a little scuffed up once in a while
I wish there was something funny about this story. Hmm… Zac Efron is really obsessed with his appearance, dresses really fashionably, and is pretty outwardly effeminate, but that’s pretty common amongst metrosexuals, i.e., people who are straight but deliberately exhibit aspects of supposed ‘gay’ culture. Not really anything funny there.
Also, Vanessa appears to be a little surprised and slightly discouraged by her hetero-but-does-a-bunch-of-gay-things boyfriend, saying she wishes he consciously chose to exhibit fewer “gay” qualities instead of choosing to exhibit characteristics commonly construed as “gay”. Again, nothing really funny about that; just a pretty normal thing someone would say about their straight boyfriend.
So there you go, nothing funny or ironic going on here, just a pretty standard, factual story in which a celebrity is taking up a rational, reasonable position that doesn’t make us chuckle because we’re all pretty sure her boyfriend is actually gay or anything. As soon as I come across a funny gossip story, though, I’ll be sure to pass it along.
