This past weekend, I had the privilege of seeing one of the best movies of the year, the latest Coen Brothers opus No Country For Old Men. The movie is a modern day Western set on the plains of Texas, where a regular guy with an impressive moustache (played by the “Best Facial Hair Grower of ’07″ Josh Brolin) stumbles upon a gruesome murder scene and finds about $2 million in a suitcase ready for the stealin’. And steal it he does, only to have a terrifying psychopathic murder-killer on his hands by the name of Anton Chigurh, played by Spanish actor Javier Bardem.
Chigurh is terrifying: A killing machine with no regrets, quick and fast and even a little bit funny (I swear). He wears Levi twill pants and sports a pageboy haircut that brings to mind a childhood hero of mine, Ramona Quimby. His screen presence is so disturbing that even hearing his footsteps coming down a dark hallway will send chills down your spine.
And yet — and please, forgive me for what I’m about to say — I couldn’t help but thinking while watching this amazing motion picture… that Anton Chigurh is kind of hot. Like, in a serious, manly, “I will blow your brains out of you betray me” kind of way. This was confusing, as Josh Brolin is undoubtedly a “hot guy”, and yet I found myself drawn to the enemy, the masculine, no-holds-barred, swaggering enemy. So my question to you is not how many years I’ll be married to my future-husb before being Petersoned out of this world, but moreso whether or not any of you agree with me.
Hence, the question of the day: Anton Chigurh, Hot or Not? I’ve compiled a list of publicity shots from the movie — take a look at them and then let me know if I’m just in my findings or if I’m in desperate need of therapy. (Actually, don’t answer that.)
