Anthony Bourdain Calmly Explains His Hatred for Rachael Ray

RAY BOURDAIN.JPGThe feud between Celebrity Chefs Anthony Bourdain and Rachael Ray continues! A few months ago, Bourdain labeled Ray’s endorsement deal with Dunkin Donuts as being “evil.” So when Time Magazine sat down with Anthony, and asked him why he picks on the perma-perky television host, we were sort of surprised at how lucid and sane his anti-Ray argument sounded. Crack open a bag of Cheetos, take a swig from your Diet Pepsi, inject your insulin shot, and take a look at this:

Why do you always pick on Rachael Ray?

Well, she can take it. She’s incredibly powerful, very successful, far more loved than I am… so it’s not like I’m hurting her. And on the other hand, she genuinely offends me. I compare her to, the standard I hold her to — foolishly, perhaps– is Julia Child, who wasn’t a professional chef either. When you watched Julia Child, you would see her make Coq au Vin, or some classic French dish, and you’d say “Wow, that’s classic French food, that’s not so difficult. Julia can do it, I can do it. I’m gonna try that.” And it made people aspire to more.

I think when Rachael tells you that it’s perfectly OK to buy a pre-chopped onion from the supermarket… I mean how hard is it to chop an onion? What you take away from Rachael Ray is “I could cook that! I feel better about myself now. I’m not gonna cook that! But I will finish this bag of Cheetos and that gallon jug of Diet Pepsi before dying of diabetes.”

We would first like to point out that the marketing execs at Dunkin Donuts are clearly geniuses, hiring a munchkin to peddle their munchkins. But coming from the camp of Rachael Ray Haters, we fully agree — she’s bad for America’s children! And also, human eyes and ears and patience levels. It should also be stated that we’d pretty much buy into anything Bourdain is selling us — come on, the guy wears leather jackets and eats monkey brains! He’s cah-cah-cah-crazy! (In a good way.) You can watch the entire interview here.

Whose side are you on, America?
