In the wake of Mad Melibu Gibson, Imus-t Hate Black People and Kramergate, it’s starting to seem like all of our heroes have let us down by turning out to be raging hate-mongers as soon as a TMZ camera starts rolling. But of all the lapses of character I’ve come to expect from celebrities, I never thought in a million years that a shining beacon of unparalleled class such as Dog The Bounty Hunter – a man who dresses like Mad Max and won our hearts by chasing down bail-skipping petty criminals on television – could turn out to be a total N-word-dropping racist. Dog says he’s sorry, but sometimes “sorry” just isn’t enough, particularly when everything we thought we knew about someone has been revealed to be one big lie.
Television bounty hunter Duane “Dog” Chapman has apologized for repeatedly using a racial slur in a profanity-laced tirade during a private phone conversation with his son that was recorded and posted online.Chapman, star of A&E’s hit reality series “Dog the Bounty Hunter,” issued a statement Wednesday apologizing for the comments after The National Enquirer posted a clip of the conversation in which he uses the N-word in reference to his son’s girlfriend.
If we can’t trust our fake-law-enforcement TV bounty hunters to not be racists, just what can we trust? You may go on hunting your bounties, Dog, but in this blogger’s eyes, you’re no longer the post-apocalyptic hero who looks like the Road Warrior you once were, and no amount of braided hair beads will ever change that.
Cue Al Sharpton’s public outrage in 5…4…3…2…1… aaaaaaand yes, this is now an official Racist Media Event™!
