What Happens In Sunday’s VMA Liveblogging, Stays In Sunday’s VMA Liveblogging

Look, everybody knows that MTV’s Video Music Awards aren’t so much about videos or music or awards as they are about famous people getting together to create the biggest, loudest, sparkliest, most overblown televised Spectacle of Celebrity they can manage to muster. What results is usually a collection of hilariously misguided publicity stunts, out-of-touch celebs (and TV networks) awkward attempts to show “the kids” they’re still hip and relevant, elaborate Beyonce dance routines with lasers and sh*t blowing up, rappers showing off how many sparkly gemstones they’re able to afford, and fallen pop stars’ desperate “hail mary pass” performances in hopes of a legitimate comeback. It’s not gonna change your life like The Oscars do, but these things are usually good for a few laughs, and since my corporate masters are too cheap to spring for a trip to Vegas so we can report live, I’ll be spending my Sunday bringing you all my fear and loathing from my living room in the Blog Ghetto. It may not be as flashy as Perez wandering around in a pink tuxedo and creeping out famous people, but it will defiintely be less obnoxiously colored. So join my little liveblogging support group right here this Sunday, September 9th at 8pm ET, and let’s suffer through this thing together, shall we?
