Stephen Colbert Reunites with Bush Administration

After last year’s White House Correspondents dinner, I’m surprised anyone in the Bush Administration would be able to make eye contact with Stephen Colbert, let alone invite him back to the White House, but sure enough, they did — COMEDY CENTRAL INSIDER has some highlights of Colbert’s recent trip, as well as a link to the footage of his mini press conference:

Colbert Reunites with Bush Administration

More than a year after his controversial roasting of President Bush at the White House Correspondents dinner, Colbert Report host Stephen Colbert was in Washington recently, where he met with Bush’s Press Secretary Tony Snow in the snazzy new briefing room:

“Would you be willing to sign my cast?” the comedian asked Snow, who noted that Colbert was sitting in the seat normally occupied by NBC correspondent David Gregory, a regular sparring partner at daily briefings. “Possession is nine-tenths of the law.”

Colbert showed Snow that Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had already signed his cast. “I was hoping someone from the administration could sign it and therefore help heal a divided nation.”
Snow agreed, prompting Colbert to ask whether the president, Vice President Dick Cheney or embattled Attorney General Alberto Gonzales would sign his cast as well, which got resounding no’s from the presidential spokesman.

“What if I was in the hospital, would he come to my room and sign it there?” Colbert said, a reference to a controversial visit Gonzales paid to then-Attorney General John Ashcroft, who was critically ill, to discuss intelligence matters.

“No,” Snow said curtly.

I can only assume we’ll be seeing footage from the event on tonight’s episode of The Report. Until then, The Washington Times has a clip.
