OK, let’s get 24 out of the way fast. To its credit, the show has been getting steadily less crappy the past two weeks. This week, we saw the Chinese commandos break into CTU. (By the way, can we take a moment and ask what kind of secure government building has an easily-penetrated sewer grate in the basement? Frankly, can we ask what kind of building at all has a sewer grate in the basement? Aren’t those only on the street?) But whatever, the commandos get into CTU, Jack is the only man who can fight them, and for a brief moment it seems like it could be an awesome Die Hard-like setup. Then they capture Jack after about five minutes. Well, there goes another potentially cool opportunity…
And now: Heroes. New York’s about to explode, Nathan and Peter’s mom is in bed with Linderman (and I mean that here figuratively, but my prediction for the future is that I’ll soon be able to say it literally), Sylar revists his mom–and accidentally kills her–Suresh meets little Molly Walker–and is able to save her–and Peter runs into Atomic Ted and starts to glow and maybe blow. Good times.
Let’s talk about the events and the questions they raised:
1. Hiro can’t kill Sylar: So Hiro stops time, goes to behead Sylar, can’t go through with it–and then somehow Sylar is able to grab Hiro’s sword. How did he do that? Time was still frozen for the mom. Does Sylar have some ability to nullify Hiro’s powers? Thoughts please.
2. Hiro’s got a broken sword: Gunna be hard to gut Sylar with that. Any thoughts on who fixes it for him?
3. Nathan and Peter’s mom: In a twist we’ve seen coming for a few episodes, we learn she’s in on the larger plans to let NYC blow and is in league with Linderman. My bet for a season ending shocker: Linderman turns out to be Nathan and Peter’s dad.
4. Sylar has a pushy mom: Oh look, Sylar became a serial killer because his mom pushes him too hard. I’ve never seen a storyline like that before. I’m guessing this was supposed to make us sympathize with him, but I just wasn’t feeling it. Although it was cool when he made a painting with her blood. The show went out of its way to emphasize how the pressure Sylar feels from his mom mirrors that which Nathan feels from his. So that makes for some interesting discussion. What do you think: Are we going to see Nathan turn and make some decision which ultimately hurts more people than Sylar has? Or will he go along with a plan that makes him president at the cost of half of New York?
5. Peter starts taking on Ted’s powers: At the end of the episode, Peter started glowing and was unable to control the power’s he’d gotten from Ted. My bet: He blows right there. New York is destroyed in the first minute of next week’s episode and they just end this season two episodes early. Or, um, maybe not…
