Like many guys in their 20′s, I’m a huge fantasy baseball fan. I’ve been playing for years– so long, in fact, that I remember getting my team updates in the mail before my league knew how to use the internet. As much as I love fantasy, though, I can still admit that it’s a pretty geeky thing to be involved in. Next Sunday, twelve of us will sit in a room for five hours and “draft” our imaginary baseball teams. When we’re done, we will argue about who has the best fake team. We will be completely serious about this.
Anyway- the point I’m trying to get at is the fantasy baseball world doesn’t need any help looking dorky. That’s why this Iron Diamond Rocks promotion by the folks over at ESPN does more harm than good. Yes, it’s kind of funny seeing Peter Gammons, John Kruk, Gary Sheffield, Jennie Finch and Rush frontman Geddy Lee rocking out together, but the fact that they’re singing about fantasy baseball is just… it’s just… ah, who am I kidding?
